Our Process

At Sloe Mosey we want to provide you with a one of a kind bag that you know everything about how it was made, where it was made, why it was made, what it is made from and who it was made for (you!).

Bags in our Summer and Winter collections are made predominantly from Hoooked Zpagetti Yarn which is made from 100% recycled cotton. Hooked collects material waste from fashion and textile factories throughout Europe and transforms them into the usable t-shirt like yarn in their factory in Portugal. We choose to work with Hooked yarns for their sustainable ethos and quality product, which means all they leave for us to do is pick a colour and crochet it into the bag of your dreams.

We do aim to be as sustainable as possible, and each season we have a limited sister collection which sits alongside our main collection of recycled bags which have been made from repurposed and recycled materials. We source these materials from charity shops and clothing donations from friends and family, or even look into our own wardrobes for old pieces to re-purpose.  We think this is a great way to breathe new air into old materials and it results in a completely unique range which cannot be replicated, given we can't guarantee what materials we will get.

To get these materials into a workable state, we ensure the material is pre-washed, dried, and laid flat, ready to hand cut it into a continuous strand at a width of roughly 2cm. From there, we roll the loose yarn into a "cake" which is immediately ready to be used to crochet into bags - simple!

We love working with these repurposed materials because as designers they allow us to be as creative as we can be given the completely random selection of patterns and colours we end up with. Having these materials as part of our creative process keeps us excited at the endless new possibilities they afford and we hope you love every weird quirk they may come with as much as we do!

As you have probably noticed each bag is topped off with our signature touch of tinsel yarn to make your bag shine as far as the eye can see. So far we have been able to source all of our tinsel yarn from charity shops but we are in the process of finding a more permanent, local supplier.

All of our bags are 100% handmade by Sloe Mosey's founders Matilda and Isabella in London, United Kingdom. We take great pride in our process, particularly our focus on sustainable sourcing. It makes every bag one of a kind and contributes to the fight against fast fashion.

As much as we hope you will love your bag for the next 50 years, if you do decide to part with it we encourage you to do so consciously. Think about donating it to a charity shop or re-selling online yourself. If you think it has really seen its days, you can find your closest textile recycling drop off point anywhere in the UK through Recycle Now. Trust us, there are plenty of recycling points we're sure you will find one near you!

If you want to know more about how we make our bags please email us at hello@sloemosey.com with any questions or queries, we'd love to hear from you!
